Flood Protection Underway

On April 30, the City broke ground on the new $12 million C-14 Pump Station, a major step in reducing flood risk and moving stormwater out of our neighborhoods faster during heavy rain. Students from Silver Lakes Middle and North Broward Academy of Excellence joined city and county officials at the groundbreaking. Crews and residents also placed a time capsule at the site, to be opened in 2051. The groundbreaking was covered by WSVN 7News.

“I remember in 2018, we had water above my knee at several areas, and to know that this is happening right now is unbelievable.”

Get Ready for Hurricane Season

NOAA is predicting a below-normal 2026 season, with 8 to 14 named storms. That is good news, and it is still worth being ready. The peak of the season runs from August through October, so now is the time to prepare.

  • Sign up for emergency alerts at AlertBroward.
  • Pre-register now for the county’s Special Needs Sheltering Program if you or a loved one needs extra help during a storm.
  • Visit the City hurricane page for local information.

Back to School

The first day of school for Broward County Public Schools is Monday, August 10, 2026. A little planning now makes the morning of a lot smoother.

Make sure your child’s immunizations are up to date. Florida requires Form DH 680 — details at browardschools.com/vaccinations.

The Broward Education Foundation runs a school supply drive each year to help families get ready. It is a great resource if you need a hand with supplies.
